As an independent and freelance travel photographer, Michel Piccaya has been on the road worldwide for more 20 years. He's currenlty based in Brussels … but never stays at home for a long time!
"As a travel photographer, my photo studio starts just outside my front door and the only kit I need is a camera and my passion for new horizons. Actually, the only boundary I have is an obligation to record the world with honesty and lucidity, whatever the subject or the location. More than just exotic locations and wild adventures, travel photography is about seeing our surroundings with fresh eyes and childlike enthusiasm."
Michel Piccaya works primarily as a freelance photographer, working on assignment. He has been commissioned by NGOs or humanitarian institutions to provide pictures many many times.
Michel produces also stock photographs for various stock agencies. His vibrant stock collection includes landscapes, portraits and panoramic photographs from more than 30 countries which have been reproduced in hundreds of newspapers, magazines books and advertising.
Michel founded also the popular Travelingstock website, a market place for travel photographers to sell their own photos.

Michel Piccaya est un photographe professionnel free lance basé à Bruxelles, qui arpente le monde entier depuis plus de 20 ans, l'appareil en bandoulière à la recherche de l'image insolite.
"En tant que photographe-voyageur, mon studio c'est le monde qui se trouve derrière ma porte ! Je voyage léger puisque finalement, j'ai seulement besoin d'un appareil photo et de ma passion pour la découverte de nouveaux horizons. La seule contrainte que je m'impose est de rendre compte de ce qui me touche avec honnêteté et lucidité. Et je ne me limite pas à un seul sujet ou un seul pays ; au delà de dépeindre des endroits exotiques et des aventures, selon moi, la photographie de voyage c'est regarder ce qui nous entoure avec un regard neuf et l'enthousiasme d'un enfant"
Michel travaille initialement comme photographe freelance. Il a couvert des missions pour bon nombre d'ONG et d'institutions humanitaires.
Michel produit également un stock de photos pour plusieurs banques d'image en ligne. Sa collection comprend des images de haute qualité, inédites, souvent insolites, qu'il a prises dans plus de 30 pays et qui ont été reproduites à maintes reprises dans la presse, des livres et des publicités.
